NETWORK LAUNCHES NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FUND FOR PLANT CONSERVATION
The Network has created an endowment fund to pay for plant conservation action including fencing, weed control, animal pest control, monitoring, translocation and advocacy. This fund was launched by Sarah Beadel (Network President) at the recent Network conference dinner in Auckland on Sat 25 May 2013.
The Network already has the David Given Threatened Plant Research Trust which was established to provide regular funding for threatened plant research. The fund will not be used (i.e., grants would not be drawn down on the fund) until it reaches more than $50,000.
The continuing decline in support for central government agencies involved in plant conservation and the proposed changes to legislation (such as the Resource Management Act and the Local Government Act) is likely to affect New Zealand’s abiloty to protect its environment. The new endowment fund is intended to provide sustainable support for plant conservation independent of government or other influences.
Donations to the fund can be made here or please contact the Network ([Enable JavaScript to view protected content]) if you have ideas of how to rase money for this fund.
