Dracophyllum Longifolium Var. Septentrionale Photographed On Mt Maharahara
Dracophyllum longifolium var. septentrionale, recently listed as Data Deficient in this years NZ Threatened Plant List, has been relocated and photographed by Lara Shepherd and Leon Perrie on Mount Maharahara.More than 100 Dracophyllum plants were found alongside a 100m-stretch of the track, within Olearia colensoi-dominated scrub with emergent Halocarpus just to the west of the summit. The tallest plants seen were about 1.5m tall (level with the scrubs’ height).
The images of the plant can now been seen on the Network website.
The plant was listed as Data Deficient as no one had visited the site for years and more information was needed to ascertain more accurately the species status.
