A classification of New Zealand’s terrestrial ecosystems
Nicholas Singers and Geoff Rogers have published a classification of New Zealand’s terrestrial ecosystems. This long-awaited classification system is based on the relationships between the abiotic environment and its biotic overlay. Transition from this mainly qualitative ecosystem classification to quantitative approaches will occur as biodiversity databases and statistical modelling permit improved fits with natural geographic patterns.
