Brief description
Characterised by the corticolous habit; the granular, roughened, areolate to effuse, whitish, pale greenish, grey-white or yellowish green thallus; dispersed to crowded apothecia, 0.5–2.5 mm diam., with white to brownish grey or bluish pruina; 6–7(–8)-septate ascospores, 29–50 × 3–5.5 μm; and schizopeltic (major) and lepraric (minor) acids.
Distribution
North Island: Northland to Wellington. South Island: Otago (Dunedin, Catlins). Stewart Island: (Port Pegasus).
Habitat
On bark of Beilschmiedia taraire, Corynocarpus laevigatus, Dacrydium cupressinum, Leptospermum scoparium agg., Metrosideros excelsa, Nothofagus menziesii, N. solandri, and Pterophylla racemosa in lowland and mainly coastal forest.
Detailed description
Thallus white, effuse, or minutely granular-verrucose, ±areolate-cracked, matt or shining, wrinkled, corticolous. Apothecia 0.3-0.8 mm diam., white-pruinose, black beneath pruina, rounded to deformed, sessile, constricted at base, thinly marginate, margin often flexuose. Ascospores 4-6-septate, acicular-fusiform, 21-34(-40) × 3.5-5 µm.
Chemistry: Thallus K− or K+ yellow-orange, C−, KC−, PD−; containing schizopeltic (major) and lepraric (minor) acids.
