Brief description
Characterised by the corticolous habit; the pale yellowish, fawn to green-white, minutely areolate, patchy thallus; lirellae in whitish or buff verrucae, innate, visible as very narrow, flexuose cracks, brown to black, sigmoid or branching, immarginate; fusiform, straight or curved, 3–5(–7)-septate ascospores, 16–24 × 3–4 μm.
Distribution
North Island: Northland (Kawerua), South Auckland (Motuhora Island, Rurima Island). South Island: (Edendale Reserve). Recently observed on common alder (*Alnus glutinosa) near Huntly (Hutchison 2022) and ramarama (Lophomyrtus bullata) at South Kawhia (de Lange 2020).
Palaeotropical. Known also from India, Japan, Thailand and Tahiti.
Habitat
A common epiphyte of supplejack (Rhipogonum scandens) and pōhutukawa (Metrosideros excelsa) in moderate to deep shade in northern coastal forest, also on mataī bark in Southland, and on decorticated wood of old buildings.
Detailed description
Thallus pale yellowish or fawn or whitish-green, thin, in patches, 2-12 mm diam., minutely areolate-cracked. Lirellae in whitish or buff, slightly raised verrucae, innate, 0.1-0.6(-1.0) mm long, visible as very narrow, flexuose cracks, brown to black, sigmoid or ± branching, immarginate. Paraphyses discrete, slender, divaricating, anastomosing. Hymenium colourless, 70-80 µm tall. Ascospores fusiform, straight to curved, 3-5(-7)-septate, 16-24 × 3-4 µm.
