Brief description
Characterised by the foliicolous habit; a green to greenish grey thallus; lirellae 0.5–0.8(–1.0) mm long; 7-septate ascospores 22–29 × 4–5 μm, with a halo 3–4 μm thick; and a photobiont forming very regular, radiate rows of cells.
Distribution
North Island: Northland (Taipa, Tutamoe, Mangonui Bluff), Auckland (Waitakere Ra., Auckland Domain), South Auckland (Hunua Ra.), Taranaki (Puketi), Wellington (Ohau Gorge, Lower Hutt, Belmont, Colonial Knob). South Island: Nelson (Kaihoka Lakes), Marlborough (Chetwode Is, Ship Cove), Westland, Stewart Island.
Recently recorded from Victoria, Australia and from Tasmania.
Habitat
On leaves of ferns and Agathis australis, Beilschmiedia tawa, Astelia hastata, Griselinia lucida, Ptisana salicina, Metroderos carminea, Podocarpus hallii, and Rhopalostylis sapida.
Detailed description
Thallus 3-4 mm diam., circular at first then confluent, continuous, smooth, greenish-grey with a slight yellow tinge, shining, foliicolous. Lirellae linear, irregularly bent or undulate, often branched 0.5-0.8(-1.0) mm long, 0.15-0.2 mm broad, slightly raised, disc exposed when wet, c. 0.1 mm broad, yellow-brown, concave, hidden when dry. Ascospores irregularly arranged, 7-septate, ± fusiform, broadest at the third or fourth cell from one end, 22-29 × 4-5 µm with a 3-4 µm thick halo.
Chemistry: Psoromic acid (major), dimethylpsoromic acid (minor) and traces of an unidentified compound.
