Root parasites

Root parasites

Root parasites are rare among flowering plants in New Zealand. Exocarpos bidwillii (left, by John Smith-Dodsworth) on Mount Somers and Euphrasia cuneata (right, by Jeremy Rolfe) in Waingawa River, Tararua Forest Park. The following species are all root parasites: 

• Dactylanthus taylorii
• Mida salicifolia
• Exocarpos bidwillii
• Euphrasia spp.
