New Zealand: South Island (Nelson and North-west Nelson, from the Gouland Downs in the west to Richmond Ranges in the east, and south to Nelson Lakes National Park).
Habitat
Mostly on limestone and marble cliffs and rock outcrops, preferring shaded crevices and ledges. The species also occurs on ultramafic rocks in the dun mountain ophiolite belt of the Richmond Ranges in rocky, open, and moist habitats with Chionochloa defracta, and in forest. Occasionally on conglomerate boulders, in grassland and scree.

Mostly limestone and marble, occasionally conglomerate, and ultramafic rocks in the Dun mountain ultramafic belt.
