Brief description
Large shrub or small tree up to 15 m tall. Large (75 - 250 mm diameter) red to pink (rarely white) flowers.
Habitat
Self-establishes from seed near mature planted specimens.

Etymology
camellia: Named by Linnaeus after Georg Josef Kamel (21 April 1661 – 2 May 1706), 17th century Moravian Jesuit missionary and botanist who worked in the Phiippines.
