Etymology
argemone: Derivation uncertain, one possible explanation is the name is from the Greek argemos, ‘a white spot on the eye’ (cataract) which the plant is supposed to cure. Another possibility is the name is derived from argos ‘slothful, referring to the narcotic effects of the poppy.
